Gaited horses often need to be ridden with contact; in the bridle, seat, and legs
Maintain an outside rein and use the inside leg to lift the shoulder, so they don’t drop the shoulder and pace
Lift the reins half way up the neck to bring the rear legs under themselves
When they pace - get the head down
When they trot - lift the head up
Work down from the canter to a four beat gait, not up from the walk
